From the blog, Sociological Images, comes a great post about the manufactured images of the Native American Indian. Oglala War PartyAuthor and Professor of Sociology Lisa Wade, Ph.D., discusses photos taken by Edward S. Curtis - commissioned by JP Morgan - in the early 1900s which portrayed staged Native American Indians as backward savages and erased signs of their modernity. 

This is a great reminder that these "dynamic" historical images aren't always what they claim to be. As Dr Wade points out, and this online exhibit also aims to illustrate, this phenomenon is not restricted to one culture nor ethnicity and disturbingly still occurs today.
